Senior R&D Engineer - Electrical and Computer  

Looking for a great direct hire opportunity in the medical devices industry? 
A well-established company in Saint Louis Park, MN is looking for a Senior R&D Engineer to join their team.   The Senior R&D Engineer is responsible for driving innovative product development initiatives from concept through commercialization for global markets. You will be responsible for develop innovative electrical system for our groundbreaking medical devices and digital surgery platform. 


Responsibilities of the Senior R&D Engineer:
  • Responsible for developing and deliver robust and safe electrical solutions for medical devices and digital surgery systems, focusing on new product design activities from concept phase and feasibility demo to product requirements, design, coding, simulation, testing, integration to design freeze, supporting documentation required for the post Design Freeze phases. 
  • Contributing to the completion of various project activities, including product specification definition, risk analysis, design reviews, design verification, design validation, and design transfer to manufacturing.
  • Interact with surgeons and clinical partners to identify and prioritize unmet clinical needs.
  • Design mixed/analog, power electronics, motor control and digital circuit design and layout of simple to sophisticated printed circuit boards.
  • Perform high-level circuit simulations and modeling. Perform hardware testing for IEC medical safety and EMC standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers in mechanical, firmware, software, test, and other fields to build innovative solutions and validate requirements and specifications.
  • Develop written protocols, reports and presentations related to design activities.
  • Perform verification and validation testing.
  • Lead/mentor other engineering staff.
  • May be required to lead a cross-functional project team to deliver new product initiatives.

Qualifications of the Senior R&D Engineer:
  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a highly related engineering field is required. Advanced degree is desirable.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ electrical engineering experience in medical device or regulated industry product development is required, surgical product experience preferred.
  • Experience with bringing up and debugging new hardware and software, experience in software/firmware development lifecycles.
  • Proficient understanding of electrical systems and electronics, includes reading, understanding, and creating block diagrams, electrical schematics, and layouts.
  • Experience with Altium Designer and/or equivalent PCB schematic and layout tools.
  • Proficiency with real-time operating systems, microcontrollers, SOC and FPGA selection, programming, and testing. 
  • Experience working on instrumentation and automation, using scripting languages such as C++, Verilog, Python, Shell, SQL, Batch, Bash or Linux commands.
  • Hands-on experience in prototype building is required.
  • Experience of design, test and solving for medical safety and EMC standards such as IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2 for complex medical systems is preferred.
  • Experience with embedded software and C Language is preferred.
  • Experience in managing external suppliers/developers and conducting prototype builds is preferred.
  • Experience in leading efforts to develop technically complex products from innovations to new product development is desirable.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally based on business needs.
